Moussa Kouyate, born 1956 is a Senegalese Master Kora Artist, hereditary player & instrument maker of pure descent from “griot” family Kouyate, fathers of West African music, advisors to kings & holders of the anthology of the music of the Mandinka people since 1235.

The rhythm of Moussa’s music is taken from these fundamental roots & is classical in nature, although when he plays in his band, his style can change to a more 'popular' form with foot-tapping rhythms. Moussa lived & worked in Dakar for 20 years alongside many legendary West African musicians & was main man in celebrated Senegalese band 'Allahlake'.

Moussa is established as an international artist following professional visits to Europe in 1999, 2000 & 2001 which have included solo performances at WOMAD, Edinburgh Fringe & Glastonbury Festivals, The Royal Festival Hall, Barcelona World Music Festival & on BBC Radio 3 & TV Music Live.

Since 2000 Moussa has also worked in collaboration with Kevin Brown, UK slide blues guitarist with whom he has toured & released an album 'Kora Blues'.
